Pre-Requisite Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion Option

Applicants without a prior Baccalaureate Degree

Applicants to the Upper Division Baccalaureate program without a prior baccalaureate degree must show completion of an Associate Degree or a minimum of 60 semester credits of post-secondary coursework from an accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. This includes 38 semester (57 quarter) credits of prerequisites with a GPA of 2.0 or better for the courses noted below and 22 or more credits of General Education courses. General Education credits must be from three different disciplines such as Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, Communications and History etc. As a convenience to students, applicants to the BSN program may elect to take one or more stand-alone general education pre-requisite courses at Denver School of Nursing. To be enrolled in the general education courses at DSN, students must successfully complete an entrance exam.

Applicants with a prior Baccalaureate Degree
Applicants who already possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, must show satisfactory completion of 20 semester (30 quarter) credits from an accredited institution with a GPA of 2.0 or better for the courses noted below. As a convenience to students, applicants to the BSN program may elect to take one or more stand-alone general education pre-requisite courses at Denver School of Nursing. To be enrolled in the general education courses at DSN, students must successfully complete an entrance exam.

Requirements Relevant to All Programs
Applicants who have completed courses that are different from, but are the equivalent of, those required for admission should submit transcripts and course descriptions for review by the Director or Nursing Education Programs.

NOTE:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing RN to BSN Option

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Submit an official transcript to the Dean of Nursing Education or designee indicating graduation from an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing program or RN Diploma Program (no transfer credits will be accepted after the first term)
  • Hold an unencumbered state license as a registered nurse

NOTE:

  • Meet additional requirements detailed in the Admissions Policies and Procedures section of the catalog.

The RN to BSN option curriculum and sequence is outlined below as if the student was taking the program full-time and has transferred in the following:

  • General Education (32 quarter credits) including: Anatomy & Physiology I & II, English Comp I, Human Growth & Development, Intro to Algebra, Nutrition, Intro to Biology (or equivalent; see Admissions Representative), Intro to Psychology (or equivalent; see Admissions Representative)
  • Nursing Credits (65 quarter credits)

NOTE:

  • Anatomy & Physiology and Microbiology must have been taken within seven (7) years of application at Denver School of Nursing. This requirement does not impact the RN to BSN Option.

Associate Degree in Nursing Program

As a convenience to students, applicants to the Associate Degree in Nursing program may elect to take one or more stand-alone general education pre-requisite courses at Denver School of Nursing. To be enrolled in the general education courses at DSN, students must successfully complete an entrance exam.

Applicants must successfully complete 24 credits of post-secondary coursework, with a GPA of 2.0 or better for the courses noted below:

As a convenience to students, applicants to the Associate Degree in Nursing program may elect to take one or more stand-alone general education pre-requisite courses at Denver School of Nursing. To be enrolled in the general education courses at DSN, students must successfully complete an entrance exam.

Applicants to this program must show, at a minimum, successful completion of 24 credits of post-secondary coursework from an accredited institution, with a GPA of 2.0 or better for the courses noted below:
